Building your own home altar is a beautiful way to call in the power of intention while creating a sacred space to call your own. The more you sit with your altar, the more this focused healing energy begins to swell.
This little nook is a place where you can journal, meditate, contemplate, create, grieve, pray, envision, practice, and craft your rituals. So it's important to regularly clean and clear this space as an act of love and care. You can also change the design of your altar whenever you feel your intention has shifted. This can be done monthly with the new or full moon, seasonally as you get ready for a new chapter, or when you simply feel the nudge to do so.
Add an array of enchantments to beautify and enliven your sacred spot, such as fresh flowers, candles, a small jar of water or other elemental attributes, burning smudge, your favorite crystals and stones, photos, hand-written letters, journals, and of course your Moon Deck + any other favorite card decks.
More than anything else, use your intuition when choosing how and where to build your altar in your home.
If you want to be more precise, you can use a compass to figure out which direction represents your deepest and most current intention. Using the power of a specific direction helps to boost the magic. Especially when you've narrowed down your possible altar locations based on your home set-up, yet aren't quite sure where to land.
Check out our chart below, taken directly from The Moon Deck guidebook. Notice which of the corresponding elements, seasons, characteristics, or descriptions make you feel most connected and in-tune with what is currently unfolding in your life. Then, choose your spot and allow your creative spirit to design and create a sacred altar for some daily soul-love and ritual.
